Stansted is on the far side of London from Epsom, in north-west Essex, and it is one of the hardest airports to reach from Surrey by public transport. The rail route means getting into London, crossing to Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale and catching the Stansted Express, all with your luggage. An Epsom to Stansted taxi avoids every change.
A saloon from central Epsom costs from £159, fixed when you book. It is around 73 miles and usually takes 1 hr 25 min in normal traffic. The fare is fixed for the whole car, so it does not matter which way round the M25 the driver goes.

Which way round the M25?
Stansted can be reached from Epsom in either direction round the M25, and the distance is similar both ways.
- Clockwise: from junction 9 at Leatherhead past Heathrow and the M40, round the north of London to junction 27 and up the M11 to junction 8.
- Anticlockwise: east from Reigate over the Dartford Crossing, round the Essex side to the M11.
The driver checks the traffic before setting off and takes whichever route is clearer. Because the fare is fixed in advance, a detour around an accident does not cost you more.
Leave plenty of time
Stansted is a long drive, and the M25 can be unpredictable. For a morning departure we recommend allowing at least an extra 30 minutes on top of the usual journey time. Stansted security queues can also be long at peak times, especially at the start of school holidays. If you tell us your flight time, we can suggest a pickup time.
Flying back into Stansted
For the journey home, add your flight number and your driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall with a name board. The flight is tracked, so a delay does not mean a missed pickup. Book the return at the same time and it is 5% cheaper.
Why a taxi for Stansted
Stansted is popular for low-cost European flights, and many of them leave very early in the morning, before the first trains from Epsom run. A pre-booked car is often the only way to make a 6am departure without staying in an airport hotel. For two or more people, the fixed fare is also competitive with the combined cost of train tickets.
